DEPRESSION: Part 1️⃣
Depression is a mental health diagnosis that can cause one to have feelings of sadness, hopelessness or loneliness. It is an illness that doesn’t discriminate. And believe it or not some don’t beat the illness.
Depression doesn’t give you a warning sign and it comes in many sizes. I bet you didn’t know there’s also many types of depression. It doesn’t knock on the door and ask to come in. It barges in, most of the time rushing & sometimes with anxiety and sometimes with laughter so remember when you are looking at someone and they seem happy, they may be putting on a brave face & might not be happy at all. They may be trying to be brave & it’s not easy. How do I know? I’ve been diagnosed with situational depression.
“Situational depression is a short-term, stress-related type of depression. It can develop after you experience a traumatic event or series of events. Situational depression is a type of adjustment disorder. It can make it hard for you to adjust to your everyday life following a traumatic event. It’s also known as reactive depression.” ~ Healthline.com
If you can recall a few actors/actresses that have had depression. Think Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford, Ellen DeGeneres & Justin Bieber just to name a few. Besides depression think about what else they have in common. Comedic personalities that seem as though they love the spotlight. Jim Carrey has said so many things about depression which some of which is profound & beautiful.
“People talk about depression all the time. The difference between depression & sadness is sadness is just from happenstance—whatever happened or didn’t happen for you, or grief, or whatever it is. Depression is your body saying f*ck you, I don’t want to be this character anymore, I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me. You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you’ve been trying to play.”
Wow, right? If you suffer from depression I want you to know a couple of things: you don’t have to go through it alone, there is help & please stay tuned for the next 2 weeks. I’m going to continue on this subject. That’s how important I believe it is and how much I’ve been asked to write about it.
Speaking of being asked to write about depression. I can say some of my friends who battle depression have asked to keep their name out of the column. And I respect that but I also wonder why we, as a society, have to make someone feel less than or belittled because they’re putting up a fight we can’t see. The friends I write for I want you to know you are not alone. Yes, I’ve said that again. For today’s article I leave you with a couple things I’ve discovered that have helped besides the normal medications. I strongly suggest following a couple of holistic doctors I’ve had the pleasure of knowing & one of whom I’ve read almost all of his publishing’s. Dr. Cole at the Cole Center for Healing has been an incredible part of my healing & I’ve only just begun with his office. You can follow him on IG here:https://instagram.com/colecenterforhealing?igshid=br3owgjudza3
I have also learned a great deal by reading Dr. Anthony Coviello’s ‘The Medical Medium’ & he can be found here: https://www.medicalmedium.com
Until then friends: curl up with your favorite things & tune in next week. For more on any of my topics please follow me on IG at MsFarrah_Realtor. 👱🏼♀️
