Carlisle Local Schools Class Celebrates Dolly Parton Day

CARLISLE, OH -- Students in Mr. Tincher’s classroom at Carlisle Local Schools joined people across Ohio in celebrating Dolly Parton Day on Friday, Sept. 25, highlighting the entertainer’s legacy and her longtime commitment to childhood literacy.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel proclaimed Sept. 25, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day in recognition of Parton’s life, generosity and contributions to children and families. The Sept. 25 date — 9/25 — is a nod to Parton’s well-known song and movie, “9 to 5.”

For students in the Carlisle Local School District, the observance provided an opportunity to learn not only about Parton’s career in entertainment but also about the impact she has made through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The program provides enrolled children from birth through age 5 with a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their homes each month. Since the statewide program was established in Ohio in 2019, more than 1 million children in all 88 counties have participated.

Parton created the Imagination Library to encourage a love of reading among young children, making literacy one of the defining parts of her philanthropic legacy.

By participating in Dolly Parton Day, Mr. Tincher’s class brought that message into the classroom while celebrating reading, learning and the difference one person’s generosity can make in the lives of children.
