WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Congressman Landsman, along with Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), Congressman Kevin Kiley (CA-03), and Congressman Eugene Vindman (VA-07), introduced the bipartisan No Profiting from Public Service Act to ban politicians, Supreme Court Justices, and other federal officials from trading stocks and using prediction markets to wager on government and politics.
The bill is endorsed by End Citizens United, Defend the Vote, and Fix the Court.
Following the introduction of this legislation, Landsman sent a letter to the United States Supreme Court expressing concerns about the conflicts of interest and ethical risks posed by prediction market betting on Supreme Court decisions and Court operations.
Landsman’s letter urges the ban of prediction markets for all justices and their staff.
The letter reads, in part:
“Many Court employees – justices, law clerks, judicial assistants and other staff – have inside information on critical Supreme Court decisions and operations, whether case-based or personnel-based. Recent leaks at the Court have raised additional concerns about individuals with insider information attempting to use that information to ensure the result of a case or expose what they believe to be an irregular course of action…
“With public trust in all three branches of the federal government at an all-time low, I believe it is within the Court’s interest to proactively inform the public that the justices and Court employees are not currently participating in prediction markets, and are forbidden from participating in them during the entirety of their employment.
“Americans deserve to know that Supreme Court justices and employees, and everyone in the federal government, are abiding by the highest ethical standards. As such, I urge you to consider taking immediate action to ban prediction market participation for all justices and their staff.”

Background:
These efforts build upon Congressman Landsman’s record of fighting to end corruption in politics and restore trust in government. Last month, he introduced the Drain the Swamp Act, a series of reform to end corruption and return power to the people, including bans on stock trading and prediction markets for Members of Congress and other government officials.
In addition, Congressman Landsman is one of the only members of Congress to have released a comprehensive, unifying plan for the future of the country. The plan, Our Great American Moment, includes the Drain the Swamp Act along with nine other reforms to fix our economy, democracy, and politics, and return wealth and power to the American people.
