Annual Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend Returns September 11-13

OHIO — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites Girl Scouts, along with their troops, families, and friends, to take part in the eighth annual Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend starting Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13. This statewide celebration offers a mix of outdoor exploration, hands-on experiences, and memorable time in nature.

In collaboration with Girl Scouts of the USA, ODNR will host special programs at 14 state parks throughout Ohio. Guided by ODNR naturalists, participants will have the chance to try new outdoor activities while deepening their connection to Ohio’s natural landscapes and conservation efforts.

“It’s inspiring to watch young people connect with nature in meaningful ways,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said. “Whether they’re paddling a kayak, exploring a trail, or discovering wildlife for the first time, these experiences spark curiosity and create lifelong appreciation for Ohio’s natural spaces.”

This year’s lineup features lakeside birding at Tar Hollow State Park, fishing and a fish fry at Jesse Owens State Park, a “passport to the past” program at Great Council State Park, and fossil hunting at both Caesar Creek and Hueston Woods state parks. Self-guided activities are also available at all 76 Ohio State Parks for those who prefer to create their own adventure.

ODNR is proud to support the Girl Scouts’ mission to help girls build courage, confidence, and character. Each program is designed to offer a welcoming, inspiring outdoor experience for participants of all ages.
