Energy Production Benefits All Ohioans

Ohio’s natural gas and oil industry continues to prove itself as a crucial economic engine, enriching our state while quietly and safely powering our future.

Recent reporting highlights that Ohio’s program to lease state-owned lands for underground mineral rights has grown into a $314 million win for our taxpayers. The majority of these funds stem from signing bonuses for energy trapped deep beneath areas like Salt Fork State Park, Jockey Hollow, and Egypt Valley. On top of that, long-term royalty payments are already flowing, such as the $11.3 million generated from Salt Fork production since late 2025.

Through advanced directional drilling, these operators access energy thousands of feet below ground from outside park borders, ensuring that surface lands remain completely untouched. This approach ensures safety and allows Ohioans to enjoy our parks uninterrupted, without even knowing energy production is occurring beneath their feet.

Furthermore, these dollars deliver a direct, lasting return to our state. By law, a significant portion of this revenue is dedicated straight back into local park infrastructure, funding upgrades to campgrounds, lodges, and public facilities for generations of families to enjoy. The remaining funds provide essential support across state priorities, lessening the burden on taxpayers.

Under Ohio's rigorous regulatory oversight, economic growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. Our natural resources provide reliable energy, while funding public infrastructure, and building a stronger Ohio for everyone.
