Extra Pay Period Expected to Affect 2026 Budgets

LEBANON, OH -- Commissioners were advised on Tuesday that county departments could need budget adjustments because 2026 contains an unusual 27th payroll period.

Fiscal/Supply Manager Lisa Dickerson said the additional pay period occurs roughly every 11 years. The decision to recognize the 27th payroll in 2026 was made after departments had already submitted their budgets, meaning offices had not included money for the extra payroll when preparing their spending plans.

Dickerson said she is asking departments to first look for available money within their existing appropriations before requesting additional county funds.

Departments that cannot absorb the cost may return to commissioners later this year seeking supplemental appropriations. No action was required from commissioners during the Sept. 2 discussion.
