CINCINNATI, -- Last Mile Food Rescue and Kroger's Cincinnati-Dayton Division today celebrated a major milestone in their longstanding partnership with five million pounds of fresh food donated to help feed neighbors experiencing food insecurity throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Since partnering with Last Mile Food Rescue, Kroger stores throughout the Cincinnati-Dayton Division have regularly donated fresh produce, dairy products, meat, and other nutritious foods. Through Last Mile Food Rescue's logistics infrastructure delivers those donations are delivered to more than 137 organizations serving those facing food insecurity.
“We started Last Mile because we realized that there was plenty of food to feed the people who don’t know where their next meal is coming from, said Eileen Budo, CEO of Last Mile Food Rescue. “There was a failure of distribution between abundance and need. Kroger understood immediately. The company has been an extraordinary partner, helping us make a real impact on what has been an intractable problem, and helping us build the infrastructure for a more resilient city.”
"At Kroger, feeding the human spirit means caring for our communities every day," said Jake Cannon, President of Kroger's Cincinnati-Dayton Division. "Reaching five million pounds donated through our partnership with Last Mile Food Rescue is an incredible achievement made possible by our dedicated associates, volunteers and community partners. Together, we're reducing food waste, supporting our neighbors and demonstrating how collaboration can create lasting impact throughout the communities we serve."
