WELCOME BACK! IT’S CONSTITUTION WEEK AGAIN - SEPT. 17-23, 2026

WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Welcome back for year two of our biographies of lessor known signers and/or attendees of the Constitutional Convention to celebrate Constitution Week. We have five new biographies to share.

Thirty-nine delegates signed the Constitution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 17, 1787. Copies were sent out to all thirteen states. The following is an interesting side story about the man who scripted or copied the document allowing for its distribution. It wasn't until 1937 that historian Arthur Plotnik credited Jacob Shallus with his penmanship. Who was this talented son of German immigrants?

Jacob Shallus was a Patriot and a Revolutionary War soldier. His Pennsylvania General Assembly assistant clerk position led him to this important but forgotten part he played in the adoption of the Constitution. After accepting this task, within twenty-four hours with a goose quill pen and a thirty-dollar compensation, he reproduced the 4,400 words onto vellum parchment.

In the next five days, we will learn about five more of our United States Constitution Patriots.
