WARREN COUNTY, OHIO — Republican Zac Haines has emerged as the winner of Ohio's 7th Senate District race, defeating Democrat Cara Jacob in Tuesday's general election, according to unofficial vote totals from Warren and Hamilton counties.

Although Jacob received more votes than Haines in the Hamilton County portion of the district, Haines' strong showing in Warren County provided enough votes to secure the overall lead.

In Warren County, Haines received 67,072 votes compared with Jacob's 44,602, giving him a margin of 22,470 votes.

The results were reversed in Hamilton County, where Jacob received 34,071 votes to Haines' 21,085, a margin of 12,986 votes.

When combined, the two counties gave Haines 88,157 votes, or approximately 52.8% of the total, compared with Jacob's 78,673 votes, or 47.2%.

Haines finished with a districtwide lead of 9,484 votes.

The 7th Senate District encompasses all of Warren County and portions of northeastern Hamilton County.

Haines will succeed Republican state Sen. Steve Wilson, who was unable to seek another term because of Ohio's term limits.

Earlier this election season, Haines received endorsements from several area officials, including Warren County Sheriff Barry Riley.

The election results remain unofficial until certified by county election officials.
