The Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus Has Endorsed The Bipartisan Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants
WARREN COUNTY, OH – Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01) announced that the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus has endorsed the bipartisan Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act bill.
The Problem Solvers Caucus is a bipartisan coalition of 62 members of the U.S. House of Representatives equally split between Republicans and Democrats.
This Congress, Landsman introduced H.R.3376 – the bipartisan Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act – legislation that would expand the COPS Hiring Program to allow local law enforcement agencies to utilize program grants for recruitment and retention bonuses. It would also modify the program to allow grant applications to be valid for five years, instead of the current one year, to reduce the costs and administrative burdens faced by law enforcement agencies through the annual application process.
Congressman Landsman introduced the bipartisan legislation with Ohio colleagues Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) Congresswoman Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13), and Congressman Max Miller (OH-07). The bill has 46 additional cosponsors, including 24 Members of the Problem Solvers Caucus. It was brought forward for Caucus endorsement by Congressman Landsman and Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02).
“To keep people safe, communities need help recruiting and retaining police officers – and this bipartisan bill will make a huge difference,” Landsman noted.
The Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act has also been endorsed by the National Association of Police Organizations, the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association, the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, and Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey.
