LEBANON, OH — Warren County Sheriff Barry Riley has announced his endorsement of Republican Zac Haines in the race for Ohio's 7th State Senate District, adding his name to a growing list of public officials supporting Haines' campaign ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Haines, a businessman and member of Miami University's Board of Trustees, is seeking the seat currently held by Republican State Sen. Steve Wilson, who is unable to seek reelection because of term limits.
The 7th Senate District includes all of Warren County and portions of northern Hamilton County.
“As Warren County Sheriff, I am proud to endorse Zac Haines for Ohio State Senate District 7. Zac has a good heart, the qualifications to serve, and a clear commitment to doing this for the right reasons: helping people and strengthening our communities,” Riley said in a statement released by the Haines campaign.
Riley emphasized Haines' support for law enforcement as a significant reason for his endorsement.
“He will stand with law enforcement and work to ensure our deputies and officers have the resources they need to protect our families. As Sheriff, that commitment means a great deal to me,” Riley said.
Haines thanked Riley for his support and said public safety would remain a priority if elected.
“Sheriff Riley serves our community with courage and integrity, and I am honored to have his trust and support,” Haines said.
“When elected to the State Senate, I look forward to standing with Sheriff Riley and the brave men and women who keep our communities safe. They deserve the resources and support they need to protect our families and return home safely to their own.”
According to his campaign, Haines has received endorsements from more than 120 federal, statewide and local officials.
Haines is the chief executive officer of DPA Buying Group and has served on Miami University's Board of Trustees.
He faces Democrat Cara Jacob of Montgomery in the Nov. 3 general election. The winner will succeed Wilson in representing the district in the Ohio Senate.
