Walking In Mason To Raise Funds, Awareness & Treatment For The Children’s Tumor Foundation

MASON, Ohio — Families, friends and supporters will gather in Mason next month to put their steps toward a cause that affects millions of people worldwide.

The 2026 NF Walk Cincinnati will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Corwin M. Nixon Park, 6249 Mason-Montgomery Road in Mason. The family-friendly event will raise awareness and money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation and its work to advance research and treatments for neurofibromatosis and schwannomatosis, collectively known as NF.

NF refers to a group of genetic conditions that cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. According to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, the conditions affect about 1 in every 2,000 births and an estimated 4 million people worldwide. Complications can include blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, learning challenges, chronic pain and cancer. Although treatments have advanced in recent years, there is currently no cure.

The Mason event is part of the Children’s Tumor Foundation’s nationwide 2026 NF Walk season, with walks being held in communities across the United States. The walks bring together people living with NF, their families, medical professionals, volunteers and supporters while raising money to help accelerate research into new treatments.

Money raised through the walks supports research grants, clinical trials, patient registries, emerging researchers and collaborations among scientists, universities, government agencies and the medical industry.

The cause also has a strong connection to the Greater Cincinnati and Warren County area. Cincinnati Children’s operates a Neurofibromatosis Program that evaluates and manages more than 500 patients each year. The program, established in 1986, was among the first 20 programs selected by the Children’s Tumor Foundation for its national NF Clinic Network. Patients can receive NF-related care through Cincinnati Children’s locations including its Mason campus.

Organizers describe NF Walk events as more than fundraisers. Walk day typically includes activities for children, team photos, opportunities for families affected by NF to meet one another and moments recognizing those living with the conditions.

Registration for the Mason walk is free. Participants may register individually, create or join a team, volunteer or support a participant or team through a donation.
