Waynesville School Board to Hear Back-to-School Updates, Consider Transportation and Financial Items

WAYNESVILLE, OH — The Wayne Local Board of Education will meet Monday, Sept. 14, with updates on the opening weeks of school, student activities, transportation, finances and several administrative items on the agenda.

The regular meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Board Room on the second floor. The meeting is open to the public, although district officials note that it is conducted for school district business and is not considered an open community discussion meeting. Public participation is permitted under Board Bylaw 0169.1, and anyone wishing to speak must register within two business days before the meeting.

One of the evening’s highlights will be the superintendent’s report, which will include an update from two band students, Gavin Gregory and Nathan Satterfield, about a visit to Quaker Heights to meet Mr. Davis, identified in the agenda as the first WHS band director. The board will also hear about the Aug. 16 Back to School Bash and Field of Faith event.

The superintendent is also scheduled to review the district’s Aug. 11 opening-day ceremony. The event included breakfast prepared by district cafeteria staff with assistance from local church volunteers, performances by the high school choir and band, and remarks from Board President Amanda Garrett and student board representative Hayden Harrison. Building principals Anna Garafolo and Chip Will, along with director Kevin Wright, are expected to provide updates on the first weeks of school.

Student Board of Education representatives for the 2026-27 school year are Hayden Harrison, Kate Lundy, Walter Shelhamer and Logan Walker.

Among the action items, the board will consider declaring transportation to Summit Academy Secondary School impractical and authorizing payments in lieu of transportation under state guidelines.

The treasurer’s consent agenda includes approval of $1,000 in donations for the Wolf Family Scholarship from Leslie Dye, Bradley Wolf and Randall Wolf, along with a $200 donation from the Goldsberry Family to the WES Principal’s Fund. The board will also review the district’s financial report for the month ending Aug. 31.

Other financial business includes a resolution allowing the district to participate in a cooperative school bus bidding program. Participation does not obligate the district to purchase a bus. The board will also consider a five-year agreement with LCNB National Bank for the deposit of public funds, covering Aug. 22, 2026, through Aug. 22, 2031.
