WARREN COUNTY, OH -- After 25 years in the marketing and advertising industry, Christian Adams has stepped into a new career choice...franchise owner, along with his wife Becky, of Seniors Helping Seniors®Warren Clermont... a care model where mature, active seniors provide in-home care and companionship to other seniors.
Adams said that Seniors Helping Seniors® offers services like companionship, personal care, and assistance with daily tasks, such as, errands and meal preparation. He went on to explain that what he truly liked about this model of care for seniors is the fact the person being cared for is being cared for by someone closer to their age. He added that this helps there to be some kind of common ground.
Adams shared how recently he saw this playout. One of their clients had just become a widower. He had met his wife while he was in the Peace Corps. It just so happened one a man that had just been recently hired had lost his wife too and he too had been in the Peace Corp. They didn't know each other while in the Peace Corps, but now both have something very much in common to talk about and relate to... "They have bonded," he explained.
"The younger generation likes to be on their phones... by having two people closer in age, they tend to have more in common, which gives them things to talk about... This makes it nice for both the client and the care giver," "he explained.
Adams noted that the concept of Seniors Helping Seniors came from Kiran Yocom's experience of working with Mother Teresa. It was her experience of working with Mother Teresa that inspired her and her husband Philip to start an in-home care service in 1998 in Pennsylvania. She saw the meaningful connections and friendships between caregivers and recipients, recognizing that both groups benefit from the arrangement.
Adams added that Yocom's inspiration went along with what he saw from his parents as a child. "My parents become caregivers to my grandparents with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and ALS, while they were trying to balance raising their own young children and having careers," he said. "It was very challenging for them.."
Because of his childhood memories, Adams went with Seniors Helping Seniors, it is there to help families that are isn the same boat he saw his parents in, adding that he was also very inspired by his father. "My dad was very committed to the Golden Rule and so am I," added Adams who is an experienced Eagle Scout and senior troop leader.
