The Wyandot were the last tribal nation removed from the State of Ohio in 1843. Their removal route took them from Upper Sandusky to Cincinnati where they boarded steamboats and headed to lands unknown in Kansas Territory. For the past six years, Dr. Rebecca S. Wingo, Associate Professor of History Director of Public History at the

University of Cincinnatimy and her grad students have been working with Wyandotte Nation on a series of 14 historical markers that commemorate the Wyandot Removal Trail. The first marker was installed at the Wyandot Mission Church last October. This year, they are installing two more: one in Lebanon and the other in North Bend.

The dedication ceremonies for both markers will take place on Indigenous People’s Day, this coming Monday, October 12. These ceremonies are brief (approximately 30 minutes) and conclude with a representative from Ohio History Connection unveiling the marker to the public. The ceremony in Lebanon will take place in Cedar City Park at 10 a.m.

(The North Bend ceremony will be at 1:30 PM at William Henry Harrison Riverfront Park on 5 Harbor Ave.)
