Nature Close to Home and Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Dave Woehr shares monthly naturalist stories.
Have you ever seen what looks like orange "spaghetti" growing on other plants? It is actually Cuscuta, also known as a dodder. It is a parasitic plant with no chlorophyll to manufacture its own food. It twines itself tightly against the stem of host plants and absorbs nourishment from the host. The sprawling strands are each about 1/16th inch in diameter.
Dodder was once thought to be in the morning glory family. It develops small flowers and reproduces by seed.
Sunny, with a high of 94 and low of 70 degrees. Sunny during the morning, partly cloudy during the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
