LEBANON, OH --Fentanyl Prevention & Awareness Day is being held this Thursday August 21 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Warren County Fairgrounds.
"This is the third year we are holding this event," explained Vikki Stickelman, who after loosing her son to a fentanyl poisoning helped to organize the group Devvastated.
Devvastated.com explains the organization's purpose ....Devvastated was founded in response to the devastating loss of a loved one to fentanyl poisoning... Committed to raising awareness about the dangers of this crisis, our mission is to educate and inform as many people as possible. We actively engage with communities by hosting and participating in events to spread awareness about fentanyl poisoning.
This Thursday Joel Jacobs, Warren County Commissioner Tom Grossman, Warren County Drug Task Force, Warren County Coroners Office, Talbert House Prevention, Todd Bailey and Stickelman
will speak on various topics concerning fentanyl.
Stickelman explained that fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and illicitly manufactured fentanyl has flooded the streets, leading to a dramatic increase in overdose deaths.
While the fentanyl epidemic has overwhelmed healthcare systems, law enforcement, and public health resources, Devvastated has a vision to... create a world where recovery is embraced within our communities through compassionate support, the elimination of stigma, and widespread awareness of the dangers of fentanyl poisoning. We strive to empower individuals and families affected by addiction with the tools and resources needed for healing and a sustainable sober life.
Stickelman explained that Devvastated is committed to raising awareness about the dangers of this crisis. "Our mission is to educate and inform as many people as possible," she said, adding that "behind every statistic is a human story."
