MASON, OH -- Mason’s Chia-Nien (Charlie) Yu, was one of six older adults recently recognized at the 2022 Outstanding Senior Volunteer Awards last Thursday (Sept., 22) by Medical Mutual.

Yu, who was honored for his work with Mason Friendly Tai Chi classes and the Western & Southern Open tennis tournament, was one of six Cincinnati-area older adults recognized for their dedicated service to others.

Medical Mutual hosted a celebratory luncheon at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse where WCPO TV personalities Michelle Hopkins and Pete Scalia served as masters of ceremony.

“Medical Mutual is proud to honor these exceptional seniors," said Christine Taylor, Director of Community
Affairs. “With their selflessness and dedication, they are amazing examples of how one person can lift up an entire community. Not only are our Outstanding Senior Volunteers making a real difference around them, they’re inspiring others to do the same.”

For three decades, Medical Mutual’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer Awards have been recognizing local seniors who go above and beyond. This year's other honorees are:

  • Bill and Harriet Freedman (Cincinnati) — Recognized for their involvement with the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati.
  • Gerald Harris (Cincinnati) — Recognized for his volunteerism at Mercy Health-Anderson Hospital and Hospice of Cincinnati.
  • Shirley Oglesbee (Centerville) — Recognized for her dedication to the nonprofit Hannah’s Treasure Chest.
  • Stiney Vonderhaar (Evendale) — Recognized as a founder of the Evendale Historical Commission and Evendale Cultural Arts Center, and his work with SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
