MASON, OH -- As the Cincinnati Open just wrapped up its tournament at the newly $268 million transformed Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, the Professional Pickleball Association just started its tournament there. Running from Tuesday September 9th through Sunday September 14th, the PPA Tour is titled Veolia Cincinnati Showcase Presented by Six Zero.
Earlier this year, Veolia North America made a three-year partnership with the PPA as a national partner and official sustainability provider for the tour. And, Veolia, the world’s leading environmental services company, found a solution to a problem that didn’t even exist… yet.
As the Official Sustainability Partner of the PPA, Veolia has launched a groundbreaking sustainability initiative to reduce plastic waste in the sport of pickleball. As part of the program, specially designed recycling containers will be placed in pickleball clubs and courts across the country to collect used pickleballs.
These discarded balls will be processed and transformed into engineered fuel, an alternative energy source used in cement kilns—diverting waste from landfills and supporting cleaner industrial practices. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation within the pickleball community in an effort to ensure pickleball’s place as the leader in sustainability in sports.
In addition, Veolia provides a free on-site water solution providing spectators with fresh drinking water to refill their reusable bottles. The water solution has been at three of the previous tournaments and has saved upwards of 30,000 single use bottles from landfills.
