Mars Hill Academy second grade students converted their classroom into a raceway for a competition between a tortoise and a hare during their recent study of fables.

MASON, OH -- Second grade desks at Mars Hill Academy recently doubled as a race track for a competition between a tortoise and a hare. From the sidelines, students in Mrs. Natalie Walls' class cheered for their favorite pet to finish the race. The reenactment came as the class prepared to read Aesop's classic tale, "The Tortoise and the Hare."

During their fable unit, the second-graders read a variety of Aesop fables to practice analyzing sentences, learn new vocabulary, create a keyword outline, and then rewrite the fables in their own words.
