Banana cream French toast recipe for National Banana Lovers' Day

Image

Bananas are one of the most popular and easily found fruit in the marketplace and with good reason. Their sweet flavor makes them easy to use in a variety of recipes, including baked goods and breakfast items. This recipe for French toast is the perfect way to celebrate National Banana Lovers' Day.

BANANA CREAM FRENCH TOAST

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 package vanilla instant pudding
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 12 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 large bananas, sliced
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • pinch sugar
  • dash cinnamon
  • 8 slices bread

Directions

Beat together cream cheese and pudding. Add in milk and whipped topping. When combined, set aside. In a flat dish, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon. Spread a generous dollop of the cream filling on a slice of bread and top with banana slices and another slice of bread. Soak the sandwich on both sides in the egg mixture. Cook the sandwiches on a preheated griddle as you would for French toast.

Cook's Notes: Preheat your griddle at a slightly lower temperature than you would for regular French toast. This will allow your food to cook longer so the heat can penetrate through the filling of sandwiches without burning the outside.
