MASON, OH -- During a recent summer evening, we were able to make a visit to Warren County’s most established community theatre group, the Mason Community Players. This year's summer productions was PIRATES OF PENZANCE by Gilbert and Sullivan. Yes, ... THAT PIRATE !
A very involved theatrical endeavor, it is more than a standard community theatre offering. The sight of a REAL pit orchestra was a nice surprise. Not just a trio or electric piano.
This show requires trained singers and experienced actors to be presented. The cast of PIRATES was well balanced with many very impressive local singers and actors. An English friend of ours, who also attended, approved the English accents. The diction, which is important in Gilbert and Sullivan, was excellent.
This production was “mid-season” for them and there are two more shows until the end of the year as their productions follow the calendar year. The next show is THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE and will be om Oct 31- Nov 8 . Tickets are on sale now. MCP tickets are available for all shows (including season tickets for 2026) online. Individual tickets are :
Seating is OPEN so you can sit close or in the back, you can choose when you get there. The theatre is small with about 100 seats allowing you to be “right in the action” wherever you choose to sit. And, viewing is good from anywhere.
Parking is close to the theatre and is free. Refreshments are available at intermission. Restrooms are limited but newer, and one is available for disabled or family. We can certainly refer this as a fun and reasonable evening at the theatre for any of the shows they are presenting. We will definitely be returning .
