CARLILSE, OH -- "We were lucky to have the D.A.R.E. program return to Carlisle Elementary this school year," noted Carlisle Elementary Principal Jennifer Dearwester.
Dearwester explained that the program is instructed to 5th graders by Deputy McKay from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, adding that,"she comes over for a 12-week period every Tuesday and she just started at the beginning of the school year in September of 2024 and finished in early December.
"Deputy McKay has been teaching D.A.R.E. in Carlisle for eight years and has worked very well with our 5th grade social studies teacher, Mrs. Tomko," Dearwester explained adding that Deputy McKay honored Mrs. Tomko during the D.A.R.E. graduation on December 10, 2024, in the school’s auditorium.
Along with the 130 plus 5th graders that graduated from the D.A.R.E. Program this year, several parents also attended the event.
D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, was founded in 1983 with the mission to teach students good decision –making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives.
"This program gives the skills students need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence," noted Dearwester, explaining, "this definitely goes along with Carlisle Local Schools’ mission that all students are respectful, responsible, and safe. We are fortunate to have Deputy McKay and the program in our school."
