FRANKLIN, OH --  The City of Franklin is proud to announce that its Downtown Franklin Main Street Streetscape project has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 APA Ohio Because We Plan Award. This prestigious recognition is presented by the American Planning Association (APA) Ohio Chapter and celebrates innovative, community-focused planning efforts that strengthen Ohio’s cities and towns.

The award honors the collaborative work of the City of Franklin, McBride Dale Clarion, and Human Nature, whose shared vision and expertise have advanced the revitalization of Franklin’s downtown core. The Downtown Franklin Main Street Streetscape project reflects the City’s commitment to thoughtful planning, economic vitality and creating a welcoming environment for residents, visitors and businesses.

A hallmark of the project was its strong emphasis on community engagement. Residents, business owners and stakeholders were invited to participate through public workshops, surveys, open houses and downtown walking tours. This inclusive approach provided meaningful opportunities for people to share their vision, priorities and concerns.

“This award is a testament to what can be accomplished when we come together with a clear vision and a shared purpose,” said Franklin City Manager Jonathan Westendorf. “Downtown Franklin is not only the heart of our community, but also a key driver of our city’s future growth and identity. We are honored to be recognized for the planning and collaboration that is breathing new life into Main Street.”

The award was formally presented at the 2025 APA Ohio Planning Conference during the Planning Awards Luncheon on Friday, September 26, 2025.
