Meet The Township Trustee Candidates That Are Running For Office

Image

WARREN COUNTY, OH -- For many voting residents in Warren County,  voting for two individuals to fill the positions as township trustees will be on their November 4th 2025 Ballot. (Those who live in the cities of Lebanon, Mason and South Lebanon do not vote on township issues or for township trustees as their cities withdrew from their townships of Turtlecreek (Lebanon), Deerfield (Mason) and Union (South Lebanon).)

In Ohio, the office of township trustee is governed by state law—specifically the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) provisions for townships. In Warren County, there are 11 townships.

Election of a Township Trustee

  • Every township in Ohio has a board of three trustees. Ohio Laws+2Ohio Auditor+2
  • Trustees serve four-year terms. Ohio Laws+1
  • The terms are staggered so that two trustees are elected at one general election and the third at the next general election two years later. Ohio Laws+1
  • The newly elected trustee’s term begins January 1 of the year following the election (so for a November 2025 election the term begins January 1, 2026). vote.warrencountyohio.gov+1

Who Votes for Township Trustees

  • The electors eligible to vote are the registered voters living in the unincorporated territory of the township or cities that have stayed in the township after incorporating, such as Springboro (Clearcreek Township) and Franklin, Carlisle and portions of Middletown (Franklin Township).

Key Takeaways

  • Trustee elections are non-partisan, meaning candidates typically run without a party label on the ballot in township races.
  • Because the board is three members, the staggered election schedule ensures continuity.
  • If a vacancy occurs in a trustee position, the remaining trustees may appoint someone to fill the unexpired term (or until the next election) under ORC provisions. Ohio Laws
