LEBANON, OH --
Warren
County Certified Naturalist Dave Woehr spotted this Monarch while out in his backyard.
“It spent quite a bit of time resting on a leaf in the
backyard. I think it had recently emerged from its chrysalis
and was making plans for the rest of the day,” he said.
Woehr
is probably right, considering the fact that emerging Monarchs have been being released by Warren County Park District Certified
Naturalist Shannon Pennington at special park events. It just so happened that she had released approximately 50 last weekend Sept., 18 at Senator Steve Wilson's Wilson Family Picnic
at Armco Park.
Pennington explained that the
butterflies are tagged once the emerge from its chrysalis and before they
are released to make their journey South to Mexico so they can be tracked and studied.
Partly cloudy, with a high of 82 and low of 50 degrees. Mist during the morning, sunny in the afternoon, clear during the evening, fog overnight.
