WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Imam Ayman Soliman cam to the US over a decade ago seeking  asylum as a refugee from Egypt. Once he received asylum 11-and-a-half years ago, he began working as a Muslim chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where he gave pastoral care to sick and/or dying patients and their families.

In June, Soliman told FOX19 NOW that he had to quit after his work visa and asylum were revoked.

On Wednesday, he was detained by ICE where he was being held behind bars in Butler County.  Faith leaders and legislators are concerned for his safety and are asking for Soliman's release. Congressman Greg Landsman released the following statement regarding his ongoing efforts in support of Ayman Soliman:

"We have secured a commitment that Ayman will be able to stay in Ohio for the time being – prior to his next appearances before the immigration court," he said,

Landsman explained that he and other legislatures had spoke at length with ICE officials and had made a case for why Ayman deserves to remain in the Cincinnati community. "We have been working on Ayman’s case for months – well before this became public. We expect this to be a long process that he and his attorneys will be navigating. At every step of the way – before he was detained, afterward, and going forward – we have been and will continue working hand in hand with his legal team," Landsman released in his statement.

Landsman added that while he could not go into every detail, "we are working to ensure Ayman receives due process, are pushing for him to be treated fairly, and are doing everything we can to keep him here at home."
