Warren County CASA Volunteers Deliver Official Game Ball At Cincinnati Reds “CASA Day”

WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Two Warren County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers pitched in to deliver the game ball at the Cincinnati Reds winning game over the Cleveland Guardians June 12th. Laurie Mitroff and Jen Harper have both served as CASA volunteers and staff members with Warren County CASA since February 2011.

Since then, they have advocated for 44 children in Warren County who experience abuse and neglect. On Wednesday night, their efforts and information about CASA was shared with a sold-out crowd at Great American Ballpark as both Mitroff and Harper stepped up to the pitcher’s mound.

“It was such an honor to deliver the game ball on behalf of CASA. CASA Day was a fun and unique experience. We hope it helps to further spread the word about the work of CASA programs and encourages more people in the community to consider being a CASA volunteer,” said Mitroff.

A large group of 200 plus CASA volunteers and supporters were highlighted throughout the all-Ohio clash. CASA volunteers were welcomed to the Ballpark, shown on the big screen and more. The daughter of CASA of Adams and Scioto County Director Cortney Brumley also got to announce “Play Ball” at the game.

CASA Day at the Reds kicks off Ohio CASA’s summer 2024 “CASA at the Ballpark” campaign. Ohio CASA is working with baseball teams across Ohio to host “CASA Day” games throughout the summer. CASA programs will gather at ballparks to show appreciation for volunteers and staff, and spread the word about CASA with the community. Each game will highlight CASA in different ways.

At the Wednesday night Reds game, CASA volunteers and supporters from at least 16 different counties all sat together, wearing blue CASA t-shirts.

“This was a special night and experience. I am proud of Laurie and Jen for not only representing CASA in front of this huge crowd, but for the tireless work they have done for years for children who need it most,” said Warren County CASA Director Melissa Perduk. “I would encourage anyone to reach out and learn more about what we do.”

There are currently 47 CASA programs that serve children in need in 60 Ohio counties. CASA volunteers are community members of all walks of life who, after comprehensive training, advocate in court for children who experience abuse and neglect.
