WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Recently Kettering Health Network experienced a cyber attack causing turmoil and confusion within its data base system.  On May 20‬‭th, unauthorized access within its IT infrastructure was detected and immediately action‬ to secure its system took place..

"In the following days, our teams and physicians have demonstrated resilience, creativity, and‬ a steadfast focus on patient safety," explained CEO Mike Gentry on Friday in a letter sent to all staff.

"We’re aware of the possibility that individuals connected to our organization—employees, partners or members of the community—may be targeted by scam communications. These may include fraudulent emails, calls or text messages designed to intimidate, demand a response, or claim data exposure. We urge the public to exercise caution," the statement read, adding, if you receive suspicious communications:

  • Do not respond, click links, or open attachments.
  • Hang up immediately if contacted by phone.
  • Report suspicious messages to the police.

‬Gentry went on to explain that while they do not know  with certainty who initiated the unauthorized access to its data, the group is most likely not‬ based in the U.S.

"Each day, we have attempted to give updates as we receive more information. I wish the updates‬ could be more definitive; however, we need to first assess what has occurred, resolve issues, and then bring back‬‭ functionality," he added in his letter.

He also thanked the many KH team members who have been going beyond what is expected.

"The appreciation for‬‭ your work is real–and being acknowledged by patients and the community.‬ We are so fortunate to live in America. Law enforcement has worked alongside us in a most constructive manner.‬ And, we are blessed to work in an organization whose mission is 'to live God’s love by promoting and restoring‬‭ health.' To do that takes all of us–working as trusted colleagues to serve others.," he added.
