MORROW, OH -- Warren County resident Sheila Brown took her camera out earlier this month and shot some pictures that captured the Fall Season that she'd like to share.
Zinnias are daisy like flowers that bloom in brilliant colors of white, pink, red, orange and green. These plants were purchased from a school fundraiser and brilliantly bloom in the front yard of Pam Morris'.
These pictures were taken on the way to Pleasant Plain (a village in Harlan Township, Warren County).
What do you do with dried corn stalks?
What about Sunflowers?
Sunflower seeds have health benefits for adults and children. Add them to baked food, granola bars, salads, cereal, or stir them into tuna or chicken salad. Sunflower seeds and hearts are a favorite for garden birds. Sunflower seeds are considered to be the best whole food source of Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect cell membranes, brain cells, and lower the risk for chronic diseases. Sunflower seeds offer two times more protein than walnuts and pecans and six times more Vitamin E than peanuts.
Corn Stalks or Fodder and Pumpkins.
Pumpkins can be cooked, frozen, and used later. Divide cooked and cooled pumpkin into 1 cup servings and freeze to make pumpkin pies, breads, cookies and casseroles. One of my favorite recipes is Pumpkin Pie Ramekins, by Dr. Peter H. Gott's "No Flour, No Sugar Cookbook" page 232.
Ingredients:
Directions:Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Blend Equal and pumpkin spice in a small bowl. In a separate large bowl, beat eggs. Add Equal and Pumpkin Spice mixture to eggs. Mix in pumpkin. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. Spoon into 8 ramekins. Place in a pan with water halfway up the sides of ramekins. BAKE FOR 10 MINUTES. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake 30 minutes longer. Cool and remove ramekins from the pan. Cool in pan until you can pick up the ramekins without burning fingers. Serve warm or cool. Serve plain or add whipping cream on top. Serves 8.
