The Fitness Court, which was partially funded though a grant from the National Fitness Campaign, is located in North Park.  A ribbon cutting for the outdoor fitness facility was held last Thursday.  The event was attended by Mayor John Agenbroad, as well as members from Springboro City Council, members of the park board and members of city staff.

According to the National Fitness Campaign website, their mission statement is to build the largest outdoor gym to improve quality of life for people.  That's something that they have been doing in communities for over 40 years.  The idea of the Fitness Court was reimagined in 2012 as they started to re-invent the National Fitness Court for the 21st Century.  The National Fitness Campaign has a goal to have the Fitness Court in 1,000 communities by 2022.

The Fitness Court looks different from a traditional gym because it is not a typical gym.  It doesn't have treadmills or weights.  The Fitness Court was designed for users to get a full-body work out by completing seven different movements for seven minutes each.  There are many different way to accomplish each movement and there are workouts that will work for all ability levels.  The Fitness Court is able to accommodate people at a time.

People can access the workouts using the Fitness Court app on their cell phones.  Instead of trying to follow a diagram of how an exercise is supposed to be done, people are able to watch a trainer do it on videos in the app.
