Food Review: There's A New Item at Papa John's Pizza

Sunday, Aug. 23 was the last day for people to order the Shaq-A-Roni pizza.  I loved it. It was an extra-large pizza with extra peperoni. At $12, it was a great deal. It is a menu item that I would miss.

Today, I received an email about the new item, which is the buffalo chicken papadia.  I decided that I wanted to have one for dinner tonight.  Although I will still miss the Shaq-A-Roni pizza, I really like the grilled buffalo chicken papadia.

If you are not familiar with the papadia, it is a cross between a pizza and a quesadilla.  I think they are both convenient because you can eat them while you are walking.  You don't really need to have a plate for either.  I did notice that the papadia can be a little messier.  There were so many ingredients on it that it wasn't as easy to keep it together.  I ate part of it with a fork in a bowl because it was just a little easier and less messy that way.

The flavor is great.  I enjoy chicken wings and I have eaten a lot of buffalo wings.  I expected something with a similar flavor.  Depending on where you get buffalo wings, the sauce can almost be overpowering.  The buffalo chicken papadia wasn't that way.  The buffalo sauce was present, but it wasn't really spicy.  I was actually wishing it was a little spicier.  It was no where near as spicy as jalapeno rolls, which is another menu item available at Papa John's Pizza.  I was happy with the taste and I will probably order again.

I picked the Special Garlic sauce for dipping, which is the same sauce I used with the Shaq-A-Roni pizza.  There is a spicy garlic available and I wish I had picked that dipping sauce to give it an extra kick.  Even though my tastebuds enjoy spicy foods, my stomach doesn't always agree.

Like the Shaq-A-Roni pizza, the grilled buffalo chicken papadia is a great deal.  It was only $6 and it was so big that I couldn't eat all of it.  That's ok, because it will make a good lunch for tomorrow.  It's an even better deal when you can get two meals out of it.
