Lou Carlo's Dedication To Family, Work & Harness Racing Lives On Through A New Documentary
LEBANON, OH -- This week the Warren County Fairgrounds kicked off the week long festivities with harness racing, which makes sense knowing the important role that harness racing has played in the Warren County Fairgrounds.
From 1948 until December of 2013, the fair's ground was the home for the Lebanon Raceway before its move to the Miami Valley Racino. And, while there were several people who played a huge role in the success of Lebanon Raceway, such as the late Corwin Nixon and Pacey Mindlin, there is another man, Louis “Lou” Edward Carlo, in the Lebanon area that not only helped make the Lebanon Raceway be successful, but also Northville Downs in Michigan.
Although Lou passed away back in 2021, his legacy lives on through his sons, John, Ed and Mike, and daughter, Helen, who manage Northville Downs.
And recently, Evan Rogers has helped his legacy continue through a documentary called In The Blood. Born and raised in Los Angelas, Rogers, who is married to Lou’s grandaugther Emma, is an award-winning film maker.
“I started following the Carlo story when I met my now wife Emma, who's mom is Lou's daughter. Their story of adversity and triumph is shared by so many in the harness community, I learned, and I thought is a real message of hope to this historic sport,” Rogers explained.
