WARREN COUNTY, OH -- With only four days left on the calendar for the 118th Congress to come to an end, there is still work to be done, such as... "passing a budget and hopefully the Social Security Fairness Act – a bill we’ve been working to get passed for millions of Americans," noted Congressman Greg Landsman in his weekly newsletter.
Landsman joined a bipartisan group of legislators outside the Capitol to urge the Senate to call a vote for the Social Security Fairness Act. Landsman noted that Senate leadership confirmed they will vote on the bill before the December 20th deadline.
For decades millions of Americans, including 160,000 Ohioans, like teachers, nurses, firefighters, and police officers have paid into Social Security but haven’t received all the benefits they’ve earned due to two outdated provisions. By the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act, these public retirees will start getting all of their benefits.
"With over 60 co-sponsors on the bill, we hope this will pass in a bipartisan fashion and return billions to our public retirees," Landsman added, explaining, "Passing the Social Security Fairness Act would be a huge win for millions of teachers, nurses, firefighters, police officers, letter carriers, and so many others who have served our communities."
December 20th Government Funding Deadline
The government is set to run out of funding on December 20th. According to Landsman ... "Congress is preparing to vote on a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through March 2025. While passing a full budget for FY2025 was the goal, preventing a government shutdown is the top priority. We are confident the CR will pass before December 20th."
