LEBANON, OH -- In light of the wintry weather we are experiencing, it's hard to imagine that I'll be hanging my hummingbird feeders in two months.

The first hummingbirds usually return to our area about April 20.

Measuring 5 –23 cm (2–9 in) in length, Hummingbirds are the smallest mature birds. The bee hummingbird, which weighs less than 2.0 g (0.07 oz), is the smallest at 5 cm. The largest is the giant hummingbird, which measures 23 cm (9 in) and weighs between 18–24 grams (0.63–0.85 oz). Hummingbirds are known for their long beaks and feeding on flower nectar, but they also consume small insects.
