LEBANON, OH -- Warren County Park District is proud to announce a new partnership with Heroes on the Water (HOW) Southwest Ohio Chapter. On Saturday August 16, a therapeutic kayak fishing event was held at Armco Park in Lebanon. This event welcomed first responders, veterans, and their families with this particular outing including veterans from Dayton's BlueHalo Company, who continue to support our nation's defense missions including those at Wright Patterson Airforce Base.
Park Staff and dedicated volunteers provided support to ensure a safe, supportive, and enjoyable experience. This special event was part of HOW’s nationally recognized program that uses kayak fishing as a therapeutic tool to promote physical and mental wellness among veterans and first responders.
By combining the peaceful rhythm of paddling with the meditative focus of fishing, participants are offered a unique opportunity to relax, reconnect with nature, and build meaningful connections with others who share similar experiences.
Adam Webb, a representative from HOW Southwest Ohio commented, “Through generous donations and partnerships like the one with the Park District, HOW is able to provide all the kayak and fishing equipment, food, and other resources needed to make this event cost-free for all participants.”
The event, which took place on the scenic waters of Armco Park Lake, was followed by a catered lunch to encourage camaraderie and reflection. All equipment was provided, and participation was free for veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and their families.
“We were honored to host Heroes on the Water at Armco Park,” said Matt Latham, CEO of Warren County Park District. “This partnership reflects our deep appreciation for those who serve and highlights the importance of parks in supporting the physical and mental health of all members of our community.”
