LEBANON, OH --Alexa Nisonger of Lebanon, Ohio, has been awarded a scholarship from the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Nisonger is a Lebanon High School graduate going into her first year at Otterbein University majoring in allied health while playing on the women’s basketball team. She is the daughter of Jeff and Stacey Nisonger.

Nisonger hopes to use her education to pursue a career as a physical therapist helping individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and improve their overall physical well-being.

Nisonger and her family have been actively involved in the harness racing industry for several years. Her parents own and train a small stable of horses, and she assists in the horses’ daily care, training, and preparation for races.

“Together, our family shares a deep passion for harness racing, and we continuously support one another to further our knowledge and success within the industry,” she said.

The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association awarded 14 scholarships to college students for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The OHHA Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and students enrolled in a degree or certificate program. Graduate students are eligible if they are enrolled in a harness racing-specific graduate or professional-level program. The scholarships are based on academic merit and financial need and must be used towards the cost and expenses directly related to coursework and a degree being pursued at a college or university. In addition, the applicant or a family member must be an OHHA member.
