YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio —The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites you to join the 10th Annual Winter Hike at Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve and John Bryan State Park on Saturday, February 7 to discover the breathtaking beauty of the Clifton Gorge region. Inspired by the country’s 250th anniversary, the event features historical reenactors and naturalists along the 3-mile trail.
Clifton Gorge features outstanding geological formations and unique habitats for uncommon species such as hemlock and the rare snow trilliumPresented by ODNR’s Division of Natural Areas and Preserves and Ohio State Parks, the winter hike will begin at John Bryan State Park Day Lodge. Participants are asked to begin the 3-mile “at your own pace” hike to Clifton Gorge before 10:30 a.m. to view exhibits at the nature preserve’s exploration center.
Visitors will learn about the cultural history, geology and ecology of the region from interpreters and reenactors who will be stationed along the trail. Hikers are encouraged to stop along the way and hear the stories of local historic figures such as 18th century mill operator, Robert Patterson, and botanist, Daniel Drake as they head to Clifton Gorge. In addition to soaking in history, hikers will experience breathtaking views of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River.
Participants are encouraged to stop at the Clifton Gorge Exploration Center to warm up and see the new exhibits which were installed when the center opened last June. Botanical and geological experts will be on hand along the gorge and rim trails to share information about the natural history, geology, and ecology of the Clifton Gorge region.

WHEN: Saturday, February 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE: The self-paced hike begins at John Bryan State Park Day Lodge located on State Route 370 about 2 miles east of Yellow Springs.
DETAILS: Hikers are recommended to begin the hike before 10:30 a.m. to view exhibits at the Clifton Gorge Exploration Center.
Hikers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring along water for the hike. Shuttles from the nature preserve to the state park will be available for participants at the small parking lot on Jackson Street in Clifton until 1 p.m.
