MASON, OH -- If your children have or will be getting smart phones, do you know how to keep them safe once they’re at the Digital Frontier? What tools do they need: How can they (and you) discern what’s safe? Would you like to make sure they are “social media literate” by knowing how to determine misinformation, disinformation, and the critical thinking skills necessary to maintain emotional and physical safety?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, this 5-week workshop Navigating the Digital Frontier: Insta-TikTok-X-What? is for you and other parents, grandparents and caregivers.

Starting on Wednesday March 19 and running until April 16, Sycamore Presbyterian Church located at 11800 Mason Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249, will be hosting the Wednesday night workshop from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Topics to be discussed...

Wednesday  3/19: Slingshot Solutions, an IT Services provider, will cover online security for parents, children and teens.

Wednesday 3/26: Critical Media Literacy will be presented by Diane Kinsella. This covers how to become savvy media users, empower your children to develop skills to question, critique and talk back to daily media messages, and learn family exercises and conversation starters to grow into savvy media users.

Wednesday 4/2: This class is on Misinformation & Disinformation: online scamming, fact-checking, generative AI and more. It will be presented by Dr Jeffrey Blevins, Interim Head, Dept. of Journalism at the University of Cincinnati.

Wednesday 4/9: Media Literacy is the topic presented by Dr Nancy Jennings, professor, School of Communications, University of Cincinnati from her course on Social Media and Children.

Wednesday 4/16: This workshop  features "Now You Know/RoundTable," a facilitated discussion with Diane Kinsella. Parents will share what they’ve tried, what has worked for them or now, and what they intend to try going forward. Leave with a sample “contract” for parents to use with their children.

The cost, which includes a resource book, is $20. Registration is through https://events.humanitix.com/navigating-the-digital-frontier-insta-tixtok-x-what-how-to-navigate-social-media or please call Diane Kinsella at 513-602-0722 or email her at dwk16@icloud.com.
