MASON, OH -- Over 200 children enjoyed a free, accessible egg hunt hosted by the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Makino Park’s adaptive baseball fields in Mason.
This event has historically been hosted at the Springboro Miracle League Field, but was hosted at Makino Park in 2026 to celebrate the opening of its new adaptive baseball fields. The field has flat surfaces and dugouts without barriers to allow individuals of all abilities to use the field.
The highlight of the event was a wheelchair and walker-accessible egg hunt featuring balloon eggs, allowing wheelchair and walker-users to collect eggs without having to bend over. After collecting their eggs, many parents tied the balloons to their child’s mobility aid.
Jamie Huss, the mom of two young boys who use gait trainers, described the egg hunt as “something truly special.”
“The eggs had balloons tied to them, which meant they could grab them easily without having to try and get out of their gait trainers. Such a simple idea, but it made all the difference, and it’s just as incredible for kiddos who use wheelchairs too. Everyone was truly able to be included,” Huss said. “They did so great, and we are beyond proud of them. Moments like this mean everything.”
In addition to the wheelchair-accessible egg hunt, the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities also hosted a typical egg hunt, which hosted over 200 people, and a Beep-and-Seek Egg Hunt featuring eggs that make noise for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
Although no children utilized the Beep-and-Seek Egg Hunt this year, the agency is proud to continue offering opportunities that ensure every child and family feels included and supported, recognizing that accessibility means being prepared to meet a wide range of needs at any time.
In between egg hunts, children took photos with the bunny, painted crowns, found prizes in a sensory bin, and explored Makino’s accessible playground.
The land Makino Park was developed on was donated by the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities and developed by the Mason Park & Recreation Foundation, with the help of the City of Mason and the Mason Challenger League. Makino Park was developed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind.
The annual Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities Egg Hunt will return on Saturday, March 20, 2027, and plans to introduce new ways to make the egg hunt more accessible and inclusive for all.
