Despite some poor weather, “Beep Beep Win a Jeep” is a success in Springboro

Although the weather was a bit gloomy last Sunday, it wasn’t going to dampen the spirits of those involved with Miami Valley Restaurant Association and Mr. Boro’s Tavern “Beep Beep Win a Jeep” outdoor adventure event.

Throughout the day numerous people came out to the parking lot of Mr. Boro’s Tavern for the October 18th event which included bands, food vendors, and wine and beer trailers.

The event was headed up by Amy Zahora, Executive Director of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association, a non-profit group with 270 members that provides guidance, assistance and cost savings programs to the local restaurant community.

The group has put on numerous large scale indoor and outdoor very successful food events and fundraisers in the past, but Zahora said the Covid 19 Pandemic began she has cancelled over 17 events, nearly all of them during the summer months. She was thrilled to partner with Marci Johannes and Rick Baarlaer of Mr. Boro’s for this opportunity to create an outdoor fall festival along with the Adventure Raffle featuring a variety of prizes from bicycles to a kayak and even a Jeep!

“We wanted to come up with something that could support our Jeep raffle and along with Mr. Boro’s help it grew into the event you see here today” remarked Zahora. “We thought it was a great idea take advantage of the large parking lot for social distancing and include some of our local bands, vendors and volunteers who always come through in support.”

Proceeds from the admissions and 50/50 raffle went to the Springboro Community Assistance Center and the Outdoor Adventure Raffle funds went to the Miami Valley Restaurant Associations Education Scholarship Fund.

Attendees were asked to provide a $10 donation per person at the entrance and they could also take part in “split the pot” raffles and the Jeep giveaway throughout the day.

The musical portion of the day started around noon with the Ashley Martin Band. Ashley had played the night prior in North Carolina and had an early morning starting at 4:30a.m. to travel back to Springboro for the show. As always, she didn’t disappoint those in attendance with her smooth vocals and entertaining stage presence. Temperatures were in the low 50s at show time which made for some cold fingers while guitar plying but Ashley and her band were up to the challenge and brought a great 2 hours of music to the stage!

Next up was a local favorite Spungewurthy and their huge 3-piece sound! The band plays a blend of classic rock, country and dancy pop hits and for only 3 guys boy do they have an amazing sound! One of the highlights of the entire day was front man Scott Millers Van Halen guitar solo… a must see! (you can catch them at Heather’s in Springboro on Friday the 23rd)

5 Story Plunge hit the stage around 5pm with 6 talented musicians and vocalists. Those boys came to play and as the crowd started to really pick up so did the party! 5 Story plunge is known for their musicianship and ability to get the crowd involved and they did just that! From classic rock to sing along hits they really provided a high level of entertainment to the audience who seemed to be ready to get out and enjoy and outdoor concert!

Finally, closing the show was long time Dayton Party Band, Velvet Crush. The band formed in 2001, is full on party / dance entertainment group! Being last isn’t easy at an event like this and especially for VC front man David Garwood who provided sound and production for the entire along with “Podunk Productions” founder David Kempf. It was now dark, cold, people were tired, and the band was wondering if they should even play. Well all it took was one song … out came the crowd, dancing started, and the energy built again into an amazing dance party in the parking lot! It was like a light switch was turned on and the event came back to life. The VC set list was just what the doctor ordered and a fantastic way to end the evening.

Sunday’s event wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the tremendous group of volunteers, vendors and the staff of Mr. Boro’s Tavern. All involved extend the greatest thanks to everyone

who supported (just too many to mention) as well as the many volunteers who helped during the day.

Although Mother Nature didn’t completely cooperate, many party-goers left this fun event very pleased, and the organizers are already thinking about next year.
