KINGS MILLS, OH -- April is Move More Month, a national reminder from the American Heart Association that even small bursts of physical activity can make a lasting difference in overall health. So Mercy Health providers are encouraging residents to find simple, sustainable ways to get active, no gym required.
“Movement doesn’t have to mean training for a marathon,” said Todd Bramlee, DO, of Mercy Health—Kings Mills Primary Care. “Just ten minutes of walking, gardening, or dancing in your living room can help lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and improve mood.”
Regular physical activity helps reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. It also supports mental health and better sleep. Yet studies show that more than 1 in 4 adults still aren’t meeting recommended activity levels.
Dr. Bramlee is sharing these quick and easy ways to “move more” throughout the day:
“Movement is medicine,” added Bramlee. “When we make it part of our routine, even in small ways, it adds up to better health long-term.”
As the days get longer and temperatures rise, it’s an ideal time to embrace a new season of movement that can help you feel your best and reduce your risk for chronic diseases that can affect your long-term health. But before starting any new exercise routine, it's always a good idea to consult with your health care provider to ensure the activities are safe and appropriate for your individual health needs.
