Warren County's Mathews Is Joined With Other State Officials In Introducing Legislation to Eliminate the State Income Tax
COLUMBUS, OH -- State Representatives Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Brian Lampton (R-Beavercreek) were joined by State Senators George Lang (R-West Chester) and Stephen A. Huffman (R-Tipp City) to introduce legislation aimed at eliminating the state income tax as well as the commercial activities tax (CAT).
“Ohio is ready to reclaim our role as the economic engine of the Midwest,” said Mathews. “This step ensures Ohio is a destination for businesses to grow and attract people who want to work and live here, raise a family, and truly thrive.”
“Eliminating the state income tax will change the lives of Ohioans for the better,” said Lampton. “Our goal is to make Ohio the best place to work, live, and raise a family.”
“It is imperative that we take every possible step to strengthen Ohio’s great economy- and this legislation will do just that,” said Lang. “I am proud to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to bring home tax cuts to Ohio’s residents and businesses and continue our fight to make Ohio the most business-friendly state in the Union.”
“This legislation builds upon my bill from the 134th General Assembly, Senate Bill 327,” said Huffman. “I look forward to working with my joint sponsor Senator Lang and Representatives Mathews and Lampton to cut taxes for everyday Ohioans.”
These companion pieces of legislation will be introduced in both the Ohio House and Senate. The aim of the legislation is to eliminate the state income state and the CAT by 2030. This will be accomplished by a phased-in approach that will reduce the top rate of 3.99% to 0% in 2030.
This legislation will encourage a more competitive business environment, encourage job creation, and ultimately enhance the overall economic well-being of Ohioans, positioning Ohio to become the tenth state to eliminate its state income tax.
The pieces of legislation await bill numbers and committee assignments.
