WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Warren County's Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) introduced a bill to ensure families and communities are protected from the growing concerns over Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers.
The rising demands of AI data centers are contributing to higher electricity costs for working families, posing environmental risks, and raising concerns about transparency as public officials sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) around project details and negotiations.
In response, Congressman Landsman introduced the No Harm Data Centers Act – legislation to ensure data centers pay the full cost of their energy demands and infrastructure needs, studies the environmental impacts of data centers, and prohibits NDAs with elected officials.
At the State of the Union, Trump announced a promise from major tech companies to cover the cost of their energy and infrastructure. A promise is not enough.
Landsman’s bill will require Big Tech to pay, and to negotiate their deals in public.
“You’re either with Big Tech or with our towns. A handshake and a promise from these tech companies is not enough. That’s why we’re leading the data center effort to make sure they pay, and that they negotiate their deals in public – no more NDAs.” Landsman said.
Last year, Landsman also introduced the Protecting Families from AI Data Center Energy Costs Act – legislation requiring the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to hold a conference with major stakeholders on how to protect residents from increased costs.
