WARREN COUNTY, OH — May is Bone Health Month, and Mercy Health is encouraging individuals of all ages to take proactive steps to protect and strengthen their bones. Bone health plays a critical role in overall wellness, mobility, and independence, yet it is often overlooked until an injury or condition arises.
Throughout the month, Mercy Health is raising awareness about the importance of proper nutrition, regular physical activity, and early intervention to reduce the risk of bone-related conditions such as osteoporosis and fractures.
Dr. Clayton Carmody, MD, orthopedic surgeon with Mercy Health“Bone health is foundational to how we move, live and age,” said Dr. Clayton Carmody, MD, orthopedic surgeon with Mercy Health. “As an orthopedic surgeon, I see firsthand how preventable many bone and joint injuries can be. Whether it’s through proper nutrition, strength-building exercises or early treatment, taking care of your bones now can significantly impact your quality of life later.”
Dr. Carmody specializes in orthopedic surgery with a focus on orthopedic trauma, foot and ankle surgery, and reconstructive hindfoot and ankle procedures. He emphasizes that maintaining strong bones is essential not only for athletes and active individuals but for anyone looking to preserve mobility and independence over time.
“From treating traumatic injuries to performing complex reconstructive procedures, my goal is always to restore function and help patients return to the activities they love,” Dr. Carmody added. “But prevention is just as important as treatment. Small, consistent habits, like staying active, getting enough calcium and vitamin D, and addressing pain early, can make a lasting difference.”
