Rear Admiral to Visit West Chester During Cincinnati Navy Week

WEST CHESTER, OH — Rear Adm. Matthew Pottenburgh will visit Warren County-area residents and members of the Scouting community next month as part of Cincinnati Navy Week, with a public appearance planned at the USS Cincinnati Memorial in West Chester.

Hosted by the Dan Beard Council, Scouting America, Pottenburgh will speak Monday, Sept. 14, at the USS Cincinnati Memorial – Peace Pavilion at Voice of America MetroPark. His remarks are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The event is being hosted in connection with Dan Beard Council, Scouting America, and will give Pottenburgh an opportunity to discuss both his experiences in Scouting and his career in the U.S. Navy. A question-and-answer session with attendees is also planned.

The appearance is part of Cincinnati Navy Week, scheduled for Sept. 13-20. Navy Week is a nationwide outreach program that brings sailors and Navy representatives to communities across the country to connect residents with the people and missions of the U.S. Navy.

Cincinnati is one of 12 cities selected to host a Navy Week celebration in 2026. This year's celebration marks the first time Navy Week has returned to Cincinnati since 2011.

Before Pottenburgh's presentation, the Submarine Cincinnati Memorial Association will offer guided tours of the USS Cincinnati Peace Pavilion from 5 to 7 p.m. Additional tours may be offered following his remarks, depending on interest.

The memorial at Voice of America MetroPark honors the USS Cincinnati and helps preserve the history of the submarines and sailors who carried the Cincinnati name. Organizers said the event is open to members of the Scouting community as well as the general public.

Event at a glance: Guided tours will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, followed by Pottenburgh's remarks at 7 p.m. at the USS Cincinnati Memorial – Peace Pavilion, located at Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester.
