Education News: Scarlet Oaks Students Support Shoes 4 the Shoeless Through Sock Drive and Volunteer Efforts
To whom it may concern, I am reaching out to share a positive story from Scarlet Oaks Career Campus involving several students from your community, Haylie Barnett, Owen Boll, Lehleah Primo, all Mason High School Students, who recently demonstrated outstanding leadership through a school-wide service project. Students in the Early Childhood Education program at Scarlet Oaks Career Campus recently partnered with Shoes 4 the Shoeless, a local nonprofit organization that provides new athletic shoes to children in need throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.Throughout the month of March, students organized and led an academy-wide sock drive, collecting over 1,250 pairs of new children’s socks. The drive was structured as a friendly competition between academies, encouraging school-wide participation while raising awareness about the needs of local children. We will coordinate delivery of the socks with John Forde, Greater Cincinnati Area Director of Shoes 4 the Shoeless upon our return to school after Spring Break on April 6. In addition to the donation effort, a group of our SkillsUSA students participated in a service field experience on March 20, where they volunteered at a Shoes 4 the Shoeless distribution event. During the event, students assisted with fitting and passing out brand-new shoes to children, gaining firsthand experience in community service and professional interaction.Students also plan to extend their impact beyond campus by reaching out to school counselors in Scarlet Oaks’ reporting districts to share information about volunteer opportunities with Shoes 4 the Shoeless. The organization continues to seek volunteers to assist with upcoming distribution events.“These experiences help students understand that leadership is not just about competition and achievement, but also about giving back to the community,” said Sadie Welch, Early Childhood Education Instructor and SkillsUSA advisor at Scarlet Oaks.Through this project, students developed skills in leadership, communication, and professionalism while making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in the community. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.
