MIDDLETOWN, OH -- Atrium Medical Center’s Maternal Health Clinic will host its second annual Community Baby Shower on Saturday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rosa Parks Elementary School, 1210 S. Verity Pkwy., Middletown. This free event will offer community resources, maternal health education, and celebration.

Mothers in attendance will enjoy a traditional baby shower experience, complete with a photo booth, lunch, and baby gifts, generously donated by community members and sponsors. Throughout the event, raffle drawings will be held for larger prizes. The event will also provide community resources, including access to affordable diapers, breastfeeding consultations, and connections to maternal health services.

“Our goal is to ensure every mother has the support, resources, and knowledge needed for a healthy pregnancy and a great start for their baby,” said Rhonda Washington, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist at Hilltop Obstetrics & Gynecology.

The Community Baby Shower coincides with Black Maternal Health Week, which is recognized annually to bring attention and action in improving Black maternal health. Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than White women, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Black Maternal Health Week is a time to raise awareness about the disparities in maternal health care, and events like the Community Baby Shower help bridge the gap by providing essential education and support to all mothers, particularly those who are most vulnerable,” said Washington.

The Community Baby Shower is open to all expecting mothers and new mothers with infants under the age of one.

“The event is designed to be inclusive, ensuring every mother has a positive experience and gains access to the resources she needs,” said Washington.

To streamline the experience and reduce wait times, participants are encouraged to RSVP and select a designated time slot between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. While walk-ins are welcome, pre-registered attendees will receive priority admission.
