DAYTON, OH -- The 85th annual Easter Sunrise Service, Carillon Historical Park's oldest event, is this Sunday, April 5, from 6 to 8 a.m... rain or shine.
Since 1942, this powerful display of faith has continued — a ceaseless tradition in an ever-changing city. This year, Easter falls on the same date as the very first Easter Sunrise Service, held in 1942.
“As dawn broke on Sunday morning, April 5, the first Easter Service was held at the Deeds Carillon,” reported the NCR Factory News in its April 1942 edition. “An estimated crowd of 10,000 made the pilgrimage by automobile, bus, and on foot.”
For years, the Easter Sunrise Service has continued, unbroken. In fair weather and foul, during triumphant and trying times, people from all walks of life have gathered at Deeds Carillon, in Dayton’s early morning Easter light, for this powerful display of faith.
This ecumenical service is free to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair. Carillon Park, is located at 1000 Carillon Blvd
