A group in Middletown, Ohio is attempting to set a Guinness Book of World records. The Founder, Adam Hunter is a 5th generation U.S. Army Veteran. He started a non-profit earlier this year retiring American flags.

MISSION STATEMENT: Old Glory Retirement (OGR) Foundation is a non-profit organization that is passionately committed to promoting American Flag etiquette and ensuring that the retirement of “Old Glory” is conducted with the utmost dignity and respect.

This respected tradition has been around nearly a 100 years. But with almost 150 million flags purchased each year. The number of flags turned in for retirement, do not add up. Less than 100,000 are recorded to have been retired properly. OGR has now seen a need for this tradition to carry on and has taking this head-on. Adam Hunter added a twist to the traditional ceremony. OGR Foundation doesn’t just retire American flags in a flag burning ceremony. They honor current and past Veterans by retiring a ceremonial American flag in honor of a Veteran’s service. Nominee is found by OGR members and a short biography of the Veterans are written and presented during the ceremony.

On July 4th, 2026. OGR Foundation is going to set the Guinness Book of World Records by retiring the most American flags simultaneously for America’s 250th Birthday cerebration at The Horsepower Farm in Middletown, Ohio. They are going to also attempt to break the current record for the most flags collected within a 10 hour period (7,806).
